October seems to be the time when our weather makes the switch to fall, and we start cooling off here in the Southern Oregon Valley. So, it is time to start checking the seals on the windows and doors. This is also a good time to check and/or replace smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
Our mid-month tip ; Check your indoor vents to be sure they are open, clean and free of any thing that could block them. Such as furniture, carpets, or anything that could reduce the air flow. If you reduce the air flow you make your system work harder than it needs to. Be sure the return air vent has been cleaned and has had a new filter after all of our smoky days. With all of our smoky days you have extra build up in the house from having things all closed up. You do want to change your air filter regularly and don’t forget the cabin air filter in your car.
End of September or the month of October is the time for that second yearly check on your heat pumps and/or gas furnaces to ensure they are working properly. Don’t wait until something happens, keep them well maintained and they will take care of you.
